I was so engrossed at the start of this book. Juliette is so relatable, just in jail saying 'I am not insane' big love. It was also fast to get into the plot and the 'what is going on' 'what did she do'.

But the further I got into the book the more I was thinking, 'this is so YA' and it was extremely heavy on the romance for a dystopian novel. The Hunger Games had romance and a whole love triangle but the main focus was the government and what they were doing. Romance was a side line (until later on anyway). This book could have turned into a mild dark romance where the girl is kidnapped and she is freaking out but is thinking about how hot the guys are.

Juliette was very annoying at time (or all the time if you are listening to the audiobook like me. The voice actor does a fantastic job of sounding like a whiny bitch). I hope this changes in the later books

If it wasn't for the last few chapters, where the plot itself moves forward a bit, I don't think I would continue with the series. But it has left me with questions on what is going to happen and I want to keep reading. Usually in series the first book is setting everything up so it should pick up from here

This was pretty hot and heavy for a YA dystopian. Making out in the shower and rubbing against each other. ADAM AND JULIETTE need to get a hold of themselves. I also feel there is going to be a betrayal in the next book. Adam was using Juliette to get free from Warner and will throw her under the bus (or maybe he died), and Juliette is just like 'oh my god he can touch me, physical contact'

I know from TikTok that Juliette and Warner and end game. How? No idea. He is creepily obsessed with her and mildly SA her when he forced her to kiss him. But she shot him so haha. Eat Shit. I don't know how they are going to work out. (ACOMAF spoiler next) Could be a Rhysand situation where he was being mean and on the wrong side to do the right thing in the end and protect people.

This book was painful, uncomfortable, and weird. There's so many things I could say, so I'm going to limit it to this: the writing was cliche to points that I completely skipped over large sections, Mafi must've been really excited to write romance because it happens almost immediately, all we know about Juliette is that everyone wants to jump her bones (that and how she reminds us a million times that she doesn't want to hurt anyone), and I genuinely felt like I was missing large chunks of this book--like pages had been ripped out (the character development, relationships, plot were all so vague and yet were made to seem like they were so fleshed out).

No one tell Whitney from WhittyNovels about this...
