This is another great book in a great series. The characters are all three-dimensional, and interesting to read about. I also love how Will and Halt’s relationship was shown. It’s very refreshing to see younger characters that have older role models they can respect and adults who trust the younger characters, and for good reason. Flanagan likes to base his fictional countries off real countries and races, which is very interesting. I also love the tactics used in the series. Instead of using the normal, fantasy battle tactics where two armies stand in rows and charge, the author uses realistic tactics that make the reader think.
I highly recommend this series for both male and female readers.

Chugging through to the end of this series...still annoyed by the unoriginal, thin disguise of existing cultures and countries...but okay, the romance is kind of cute now.

was pleasantly surprised - john does not have the best track record in depicting other races but there seemed to have been a lot of research done into japanese culture and warfare that was reflected in this book. a good ending to the main series
As possibly the last book in the Ranger's Apprentice series, I was kind of underwhelmed by everything. It was a great journey and was a total pleasure, but it did not have that resounding "final" effect. The adventures into the "Japan" like area of the book were interesting and very creative. I am sad to see this series end, but I am excited to read new things by John Flanagan.
