Well, this is probably the most depressing thing I read since A Little Life. I’m conflicted about how to rate this book because the themes and (social) issues discussed are highly relevant but the execution feels weak in comparison. It lacks nuance. There’s a lot of anger, frustration, and brutal honesty about current politics and humanity, and i appreciate this approach that’s doesn’t try to embellish the ugly, but with its repetitiveness the story almost loses its intended effect. The never-ending cycle of cynicism and 'torture porn' doesn’t serve any purpose other than to reiterate the same thesis over and over again; humans are cruel beasts, by choice or circumstances, that gave in to their true monstrous nature which is concurrently fuelled by the capitalist mania, right wing politics and technological advances. (Or is it that the human nature was distorted by modern society? Both interpretations ring true.)
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m disagreeing with this cynical world view, but I feel like this novel is missing an antithesis. An element that would make the story emotional charged, create a significant conflict, or present a possible resolution to the problem at hand. This doesn’t mean the issue has to be resolved, only more intricately examined.
So yeah, I’m slightly disappointed with the execution of this dystopian novel.

Ich hätte mir tatsächlich ganz gerne eine Triggerwarnung gewünscht - die gab es in bisherigen Rezensionen nicht. Die hohe Bewertung gibt es v.a. für die Recherche; ich war überrascht, wie weitfassend die aktuellen Verschwörungstheorien aufgegriffen und umgesetzt wurden. Werde das Buch jedoch kein zweites Mal lesen.

Dieses Buch ist komplett in einem anderen Stiel geschrieben, sehr erfrischen wie unsere Gegenwart sich fast nichts zu einer Dystonie gemacht wird. Was man bereit ist auf zugeben für die Zukunft und weshalb man nie die Hoffnung verlieren soll
Spannend, sehr gut geschrieben. Aber ein bisschen zu brutal und auf Medienkonsum, Sex und Drogen fokussiert. Problematisch fand ich die Darstellung von psychischen Krankheiten.
Eins der klügsten Bücher, die ich in der letzten Zeit gelesen habe. GRM ist keine Dystopie - es ist die Welt, in der wir leben. Es ist der Blick mit einem Vergrößerungsglas auf viele Aspekte unserer Zeit.
Es ist deprimierend, sarkastisch und messerscharf beobachtet.
Einziger Kritikpunkt - die Länge. Die zweite Hälfte fand ich in vielen Teilen redundant und so verlor mich Sibylle Berg zum Ende hin ein wenig. Trotzdem eine klare Leseempfehlung. Für jeden.
