I like this series, and can't wait to read the next book. Rhyan still owns my heart, but Lyr is one of those characters I just can't seem to connect to as much as I would love to.

I can't get enough of this series. I love love love the side characters in this one. I'm usually one for picking up on twists but that ending made me actually gasp.
Frankie really knows how to draw out that slow burn too!! This has become my favorite series and I really wish more people find it because it deserves recognition. I really love books when the FMC isn't a Mary sue and can do everything - Lyr really struggles (though sometimes I do wish she'd catch a break!) And it makes it real, she is not handed anything because of who her family is and she really needs to fight for every inch of progress.

I had to start and stop this book multiple times when I first picked it up because the first 350 are so much exposition and repetitive filler of the same training and sexual tension interactions between Rhyan and Lyr that it was boring and really hard to get through. I only got through it finally by listening to it on a long car ride at 1.5x speed. But I will say once I got to the last 100 pages, the plot really took off and there were twists I didn’t see coming. It recovered itself and was back to the interesting world built in the first book. Because of that, I will still read the next book and hope that it makes this series worthwhile.

a weak four i guess? might go back and change it to a 3.5. i liked this better than the first book and i will keep reading the series! i think it‘s good to see some side characters becoming more involved and getting more of a personality and i hope that trends keeps growing. this series actually sets up a pretty interesting and intricate political world and (magic) system and i hope that stays/becomes more of a focal point from here on out. i love me a romantasy but i feel like this is really a story where the romancy should be more of a sub-plot. major ick to me when a couple can‘t be in the same room together without becoming turned on by each other even while shit is going down like keep it together. i also felt that in the first book we saw a lot of lyriana‘s potential as a politician and how she understands the game and while that was still somewhat present in this, i need the next book to showcase that more again and write her smarter again
