Better than the first!
My goodness, I thought the first book was pretty good but this one blew it out of the water. So much happens in this book with almost non-stop action and character development. The pacing of the book was excellent, not too fast to where you feel like you missed things and it didn’t drag along. I feel like the first book dragged, but mostly because it set up the stage for this stunning sequel.
Questions from the first were answered for the most part but then a slew of more questions appeared.
The romance was there, but didn’t completely dominate or diminish the larger story. In fact, I believe that it added to the character development and tension between multiple people.
Cannot wait for the sequel!

Received this as an ARC and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Book 1 sucked me into this amazing world and it’s characters/creatures and this book floored me with the amazing detail and forbidden romance, “who touched you” and one bed trope. I can’t say anything other than this series is a MUST READ!

Okay okay okay. I am now confident that I really like this series and I am going to have to go back and edit my review of book one to tell you all to run and read this.
First things first!! This book starts with a PREVIOUSLY ON… section at the very beginning summarizing the highlights of the first book. This is genius and I now think this should be a hard requirement of every fantasy author (looking at you SJM with CC3 coming out) moving forward.
Getting into the book itself. I read the first and second book in this series back to back within two days and I highly recommend treating book one and two as one very large book. Frankie explains in the authors note at the end that they were originally supposed to go together and I really think that they need to go together back to back. Reading them this way makes the story feel whole and tees up the rest of the series perfectly. I felt like the end of the first book was lackluster and I didn’t get what I wanted from it and book two tied out what I was looking for in book one.
Why should you read this series? The world is complex but very easy to get into quickly. The characters are lovable, well developed, have incredible communication skills, great chemistry, and leave you excited for more. The plot is always moving forward, keeping you hooked from page one onward. I am so excited to read the third book. This series has brought my love for fantasy back to life!!

I cannot get enough of this series! The world Frankie created is just *chef's kiss*. The second book was even better than the first with more corrupt politics, betrayals, and heartbreak! I might have shed tears a few times.
