Cleopatra vibes!
Loved the second book as much as the first in this series. I studied ancient history in college and really liked the Cleopatra vibes this series gives off!

I can't tell you how many times during this book that I screamed!! I am so hooked, and I can't wait for book 3!
In my review of the first book, I talked about how Lyr being a true underdog won me over, and it continued throughout this book! I love the fact that she doesn't *currently* have magic, and that she has to fight for everything she has! I love that she has sacrificed over and over again and can't seem to come out on top. I love that she isn't just immediately good at fighting and that she gets beaten down over and over again until she learns to hold her own. I love that she is an actual underdog. Even though we know that she will eventually come into her powers and be even more powerful than anyone around her, and I love that it is a journey to get to that point and it isn't immediately realized!
I was hooked from page one of book one, and that didn't stop during book two. This story is full of small details that may seem insignificant in the moment, but they come to the forefront later! Frankie is amazing at developing this world and such compelling characters, and has a knack for throwing in small twists when you least expect it. She has a way of making you completely loathe certain characters. I spent this entire book yearning for the Imperator and his posse to get theirs, and I cannot wait to watch them fall as I cackle with glee!!!
In conclusion, I'll just say this once, I'm in love with Lyr and Rhyan, may they have a wonderful happy ending full of love! I fell in love with Rhyan from the first "hello, lover," and I will love his character through the last "hello, partner.".
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Remember who you are...quite the emotional roller coaster, but I can't wait to see what happens next!
Two books, 900 pages total, and very little has actually happened. I expected much more from the second book after nothing happened in the first. So many repeat conversations, world building, and internal dialogue. So many times I wanted to give up, then something interesting would finally happen to keep me reading.
Safe to say I may not continue the series, even though some events at the end hinted the 3rd book may have more of a plot.

Is this one of my favourite series now? I think so
Everything makes SO MUCH more sense after reading this book. Wild that the 1st book was cut in half before being published to become book 1 and 2. After book one I was somewhat on the fence with this series. After book 2? Can’t wait for the 3rd.
Review: An Empire Built on Blood Oaths may be a better title. The equivalent of Harry Potter Unbreakable Vows are everywhere in this book, and it’s a wonder that anyone in this society actually survives - then again, maybe there’s a reason for the slow collapse of the Empire portrayed in this book. One girl who really just wants to chill and learn magic but has no magic and is now not allowed to chill (except when hanging out with her icy BF - except they can’t date because of, you guessed it, another blood vow/oath) has possibly the most of these break-and-die-or-SUFFER vows and has to navigate through all of them, while being targeted by a terrorist organization, protecting her sisters if-anyone-finds-out-DEATH secrets, fight for an engagement to a guy she really doesn’t even want to date, learn to be a soldier after a life of luxury, combat PTSD from pre-book events and more. It’s a wild ride of action, mystery, a tremendous amount of blood oaths, and a touch of enemies to lovers that turns into forbidden love.
