Yeah so- this book was really good. Isaac and Sunny had such good chemistry but I just…. I HATE the trope where characters refuse to fall in love because “things end” or in Sunny’s case “car crash” like ??? You’re telling me in the 15 ish years since her parents died she just…? Convinced herself love would only end in a car crash? It is more forgivable in Isaac’s part because it’s still new and he has literally not moved on at all… but even still? The privilege to grieve like that! The toll it takes on everyone else? It’s like they both died at that point.
Also they are self reflective enough to know about this and themselves but not enough to realize the toxicity of it and to move on???
Ugh!
And they fell fully in love in the span of a week! UGH! I hate that. And apparently they secretly marry a month after their falling in love! UGH! Gross.
I still love the writing style and I want these two to keep writing books with each other. It was a fun read… it also might have annoyed me more than normal because I’m also reading Dani Brown and it’s basically the same shit. It’s definitely better than the second book of this series though!

Idk if I’m just in a romance reading slump but I felt like this was meh for me. Not bad in any specific way but slow pacing, not enough tension and I had to force myself to finish it. I liked the first two in the series a lot and I think Simone and Murphy write well together

I read this book very quickly for a book club discussion; there were many characters who I assume were in the previous books and at least once the story itself got going this wasn't a huge factor, but I felt that having not read the previous two books it would have been nicer to have less of those people involved, it felt like I was missing out on some important information. Also, the prologue introduces so many characters and is absolutely zany and weird, this immediately sets the tone but was almost a DNF from me.
This felt a little chaotic, due to those number of characters that were tough to track but also because of the number of sub-plotlines and the amount of personal baggage that each of our main characters is carrying. It was an interesting choice (though a weird one perhaps) to have Teddy's point of view for only the prologue and the epilogue? That felt like a nod to the previous two books or something I didn't understand.
I thought that this author duo seemed to work pretty well together/ the writing felt seamless. I updated my reading progress at 26% that I thought the 'sex scenes were steamy but they're simply "dropped in" and did not come across very organically'. Months later, almost none of this book is memorable. I also wrote down during the book discussion that "the intimate scenes are important and functioned to build trust, however there was somewhat too much dialogue during them".
I felt that the ending was too tidy or too wrapped up, especially with the whole component dealing with her brother Charlie and what her role in the family diaper business would be. Maybe this was a nod to how Hallmark movies wrap everything up? Also this is the last book in the series...
After reading some reviews I saw a couple comments about how people viewed the main characters: that it was hard to root for Isaac when he was so reluctant to move on from his wife, and there were a couple comments that Sunny was too chipper or too over the top with people she's talking to. I did see many people mention that the body positivity and sex positivity and representation were good in this book, all of that was done well and relatively casually. I also saw that many people DNF'd this book literally just based on the zany wacky prologue that was a tough sell.
The characters in this book were the shining stars! If the story itself had been a bit better, then I would've rated it higher. The characters were dynamic and had wonderful growth, but that's all it had going for it. It was a cute, spicy Christmas read, and I'm expecting to read the other two books next Christmas!
