It was amazingly fast paced but I loved it. Doctor Strange is one of the few Marvel superheroes that I would read their origin story over and over again. Stephen and Wong and Sofia made a great team, and I really enjoyed reading how Strange comes into his powers. The art style took a bit to get used to, but I ended up liking it; it really fit with the story.

And at the end of the main story, when you see Doctor Strange in his superhero uniform for the first time? I may have squealed aloud at like 12:30 in the morning. Cos I'm a dork and excited by grown men in mystical magician costumes with orange spotted gloves.

There's also a teaser chapter for a related title by Matt Fraction, who is on my must read list of comic authors - so I'll certainly be checking out Defenders as well. Among others, there's Doctor Strange and She-Hulk and a Namor I actually want to care about!

(Insert obligatory rally cry of RAUL ESPARZA FOR MCU!DOCTOR STRANGE here.)

I really enjoyed this! It had been sitting on my shelf for far too long & I'm glad I decided to give it a go. I loved the characters & the story line & the illustrations were perfection.

This is supposed to be a new retelling of the Doctor Strange origin. I don't know the character from anything else and I still feel as if I don't. This was confusing and all over the place. And it ended with part one of another story in a clear gimmick to try and make you go buy more things. Ugh.
Emma Rios on art was a plus though.

Marvel has made Strange suffer through what feels like an endless series of origin-story retellings. This is what happens when you haven't had an ongoing series for a long time and the editorial staff are figuring out what works for the eventual relaunch when the movie comes out.

I'm pleased to say that I really enjoyed this one. Emma Rios is never going to be Steve Ditko, and she isn't ever going to ape his work; this is a good thing because the 1960s are over. Instead the excellent art is pointy and sinister. Seems appropriate.

Writing is mostly garbage - but the art is top notch and a joy to view where she started from.

Sometimes it was a little hard to read with the odd style of writing and style of the pictures. Still a good story. This also leads into [b:Doctor Strange, Vol. 1: The Way of the Weird|26030872|Doctor Strange, Vol. 1 The Way of the Weird|Jason Aaron|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1460597486s/26030872.jpg|45957132] and has the first couple of stories. I wish that was 'advertised' on the book because I would've tried to find this first rather than reading the former.
