For having started this book In 2022 and then only reading 200 pages to finish it within a week seems so strange. This book was so much fun, I’m quite excited to get to other Shadowhunter books that I’ve forbidden myself from reading until I finished this. The plot was truly plotting so hard if only I had read the next chapter back In 2022 because this book truly picked up and never slowed down.

I’ve heard so many good things about the infernal devices from my friends but I think the eldest curses will have to be my next books because I’ve waited long enough for them I think.

A beautiful, BEAUTIFUL ending to this series!!! I laughed, cried, was on the edge of my seat, and every other emotion possible! So many memorable and well-written moments. I’m so sad it’s over, but I will definitely be reading the rest of Clare’s books in the Shadow world!!

I’m not sure why I waited so long to read the final book of this series because I loved it!! I laughed, I cried, and it was just an enjoyable reading experience all around!

City of Heavenly Fire
8.5/10

- i have so many thoughts and emotions rn
- SIMON GIVING UP HIS MEMORIES BROKE MY DAMN HEART

- unpopular opinion: sebastian/johnathon did not deserve redemption, though it was nice to see what could've been.

- there are so many good quotes goddamn
- the best finale to a series like this
- i loved reading this series in full and now it has a special place in my heart <3
- malec <3333
- chapter 23 broke me fr
- THE SHOCK I WENT THROUGH WHEN JACE "GAVE UP" CLARY TO SEBASTIAN AND THEN CLARY STABBED SEBASTIAN WITH IT AND IT WAS HEAVENLY FIRE. I SCREAMED

- alec being so annoyed with all the straight couples is so relatable
- speaking of relatable, i relate to alec so much. i'm gay, i want people to be proud of me, and i feel as if i'm not good enough.
- i'll definitely take a break from this universe but i will come back for the rest
- i did not care for Emma and Julian... just sayin
- anyways i'm probably going to be in a book slump for a while...
- i hope simon becomes a shadowhunter.

Beautiful wrap up to the series. Bring tissues for both happy and sad tears. A thrilling last installment to this series and I will greatly miss all the characters.

If I could, I would rate different sections of this book different things, but alas I can only give one rating so I give it three stars.

First, the things I didn’t like. This “ending” is kind of lackluster, and Sebastian’s motivation felt weak and contrived. The introduction of seven brand new characters was definitely put in for the sole purpose of getting people to read the dark artifices books. There were too many references to the infernal devices for my liking, and honestly this book felt less like the conclusion of a six book story and more like a way for the publisher to get readers to read six more books. Also, these two wars both took place over about 5-6 months and that feels ridiculous to me. This series should have taken place over a year or two, not a season or two.

Now for the things that I did like. I really enjoyed the banter between the main crew. I loved how their relationships developed, and how they grew. I like that a good chunk of the book was devoted to resolution. I like that choices had consequences, though I think some of those those consequences could have been both stronger and some seemed overly harsh. I like that Simon had his moment in the spotlight (he’s probably my favorite character and the character that has the most growth over the series).

Overall, this book was fine. The second half of this series is not super worth the read unless you’re a big lover of this world.
