I loved the idea that this novel was inspired by historic events and that female narratives were put at the forefront. Lisbet was an intriguing yet imperfect narrator that carried the story. I liked the secondary queer romance despite the resolution being a touch unsatisfying. Despite this the book and it’s historical origins make for an interesting and thoughtful exploration of a little remembered part of history.

Perfectly enjoyable historical fiction but I think I would have got more from it if it was the POV of the sapphic characters

Loved this and can't wait to read more from Hargrave. The prose is beautifully written and made me feel completely immersed in the story. Like 'The Mercies' this book had thoughtful and emotional queer representation, which is often missing in historical fiction. My only slight disappointment was part of the ending but other than that another amazing book.
