I wanted to like this book, but honestly the plot moved very slowly and was a little boring. The book is supposed to be about the dancing plauge, however it follows characters who live far away from town so the dancers are just background characters.
Overall the book moves very slowly in the first half, but even in the second half I didn't think it was exciting enough. The majority of the book The main character is worrying about her pregnancy, and it just seems odd to focus on her story when the main event is the dancers.

What I appreciate about KMH’s stories is that they are so deeply set in realism of the time and place. We’re really transported there, and that may have some disturbing or sad indications for the characters, but it is all the stronger for it. We may not get Happily Ever Afters, but we get Historically Ever Afters, and it’s in this that the heart of the story lies. The Dance Tree is no different, and I can’t recommend the beauty of this one enough!

I appreciated learning about the "dance plague" in late 16th-century Strasbourg. The author does a good job of depicting the struggles of the women characters in this story (persecution for being gay and/or being viewed as a witch, multiple miscarriages, and more).
