Writing was Ok but at times confusing. Just really gross phrases a lot ðŸ˜. Story was good but very sad. Pretty ok, but I really struggled with the setting/time period.

My first flop with queen Millwood Hargrave :(
Sadly I just didn't feel the same heart in this as the other books I've read by this author - I found Lisbet pretty unlikeable but also uninteresting so it kind of put a damper on the rest of the plot :/
I'm not a fan of pregnancy/motherhood stories at the best of times and when combined with a generally miserable setting it was rough going. I liked that the dancing was how women were protesting their lot in life, but also being used by others to hide other goings on or to profit off it. It was pretty peripheral overall though (despite what the blurb had me believe), and wasn't enough to save me from the pit of despair that was Lisbet :(
The blurb makes this seem a lot more exciting than it was, and I didn't really like that the 'twist' was lesbianism - I feel it kind of cheapened the two women's relationship and I would much rather have followed one of them.
