This is by far the best I have read from Henry (and I've read them all). She does produce everything I want from a romance novel, light and fluffy with just enough excitement to keep me turning the page.

That doesn't mean I don't have criticism for her either. Her writing is so millennial it's honestly hard to read sometimes and especially in this book I caught a few continuity discrepancies which made it feel too rushed.

The reason why I think I liked this book so much was it was like micro dosing "the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo" but the narrator gets a few sex scenes tacked on. It was jarring at times to flip between the two stories but on the most part, Henry did this quite well.

I still absolutely devoured the book. I couldn't put it down, despite having a lot of things I could have been doing. There is something addictive about her stories.

I still agree with most of her critics even if it's not as ademently. They're not masterpieces but they are entertaining and if that's what she's trying for then she is doing a marvellous job.

But I swear if I even get a tiny whiff that she's a republican, I am out of here so fucking fast I will leave a dust outline like I'm a fucking Looney Tunes character.

This is only my second Emily Henry book so I can’t really comment on how it compares to her others. I really liked the mystery aspect with the unfolding of Margaret’s story, but the chemistry between Hayden and Alice fell flat for me. Not only did it go from 0 to 15 to 100 in a VERY short time, but there were silly “boundaries” that they kept setting themselves up to break. It got old pretty quick. After 2 books, not sure she’s an auto-buy another for me. But willing to try one more before I definitively decide!

I loved this book. It definitely was the kind of book I would have flown through if I didn’t have such a busy week, but I almost love that I dragged it out a little longer than I normally would just because of how it ends.

Too much spice. I forgot how spicy her books are.
And this book has dual time line. The older time line was too slow and not compelling.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this book would have been better without the romance. Hayden never felt like more than a cardboard cutout of a character, so I never cared about the romance and whether one of them getting this writing job over the other would affect their relationship.

Now the story of Alice and Margaret learning to trust each other, and Margaret's mostly-true stories, were a major highlight. I enjoyed Alice as a main character, even if I couldn't relate to her overly-sunny disposition. If more of the story could have been these two interacting (maybe with more Jodi too?) I would have liked this more.

I also didn't care for the choice to make Hayden the secret grandchild here. Because I didn't connect to him at all throughout this book, and how we got a single conversation about his mom, it felt like a let down for that relationship (or lack thereof) to be the catalyst of the book. Either make it connected to Alice or flesh out both Hayden and his mother more.

This is not a romance. It's a love story, yes, multiple even. But not a romance. It is absolutely stunning though.
