This book isn’t a normal Emily Henry. It’s a pivot from her usual plots but it still has its Emily Henry flare. The banter and romance is still top tier. People are comparing it to Wvelyn Hugo and I just don’t think they’re comparable. Once you start reading GBBL and get into the thick of it, you’ll see what I mean.

The themes in this book have me still in awe a day later. I’ve been reflecting on finishing this book and words still can’t do justice the way it made me feel.
The theme of legacy, and what your families legacy means for you, and how generational trauma matters just as much as generational wealth and privilege.

I lost my dad young so I related to soooo many feelings in this book. It made me want to call my mom and just tell her how much I love her. She knows it and we have a great relationship… but it really makes you think about where you come from. What stories would be told about us? What did my great grandfather do that led to my grandfather being the way he is?

The ending has me sobbing. Knowing WHO the whole book was for??????

While I enjoyed the parallel unfolding stories of Alice-Hayden and Margaret, this is not my favorite EmHen book. I think the parallel stories might’ve split some of the attention, leaving the main couple without as much depth. Captain Cecil forever though!

maybe me liking funny story was just a fluke. i appreciate how ambitious henry was with this plot, but it gets all rushed and messy - even contrived - in the last third. disappointing. gorgeous cover though. wished for more focus on alice and her mom.
i absolutely despise an epilogue/last chapter with a pregnancy reveal as a sign of happiness.
banger last line though. i think this is the last emily henry book i’ll read for a few years

I will always love and EmHen book and this was no exception. I do find myself yearning for something more, though. The big plot reveal towards the end was wonderful, and leaving the story open-ended (somewhat) definitely gives us room to play with our imaginations. Maybe what bothers me is I was DYING for us to get a Hayden POV, or for us to learn literally anything about what he’d been hearing during interviews. I’m bummed that there was so much left unsaid, but appreciate the reason nonetheless. Wonderful book, I definitely cried at the depth of this relationship between sisters.

After how much I loved Book Lovers and Funny Story, I thought Emily Henry was only getting better and better. But sadly this romance fell a little flat for me. It progressed way too quickly and honestly the whole book felt like she took on too many elements to be able to fully develop the relationship properly. Probably my second least favorite of her books. The best parts were the interviews with Margaret about her family’s history.
