this one fucked with me a lil bit. queer. trans. poly. and hard. so hard. reading how people talked about and perceived Inoken? i kept thinking that i hope people don't see me and just think "oh, they're always like that" in regard to my lows, my depressive states, my inactivity. lordt.

and the last few pages? that was so callous. wow. it didn't seem quite right for the character to just break it off that damn abruptly.

read on Libby.

Not a bad story, but it was just so visually cluttered and confusing. The combination of the art style and the color/inking choices just made this very difficult to follow. 100 pages into the book and I'd still be mixing up characters or confused about who the speaker was, but that confusion didn't add anything interesting to the overall book. Lots of little vignettes that didn't really contribute much to the mood or the narrative. Unfortunately its just pretty forgetable.

another win for me and great graphic novels today

“I just feel so fucking lost. I’m 30 years old and I feel like I’m starting from scratch again. I mean… how did I waste so much time?”

This graphic novel perfectly captured the feeling of newfound (though not actually new) gender confusion. The devastation of not having realizing earlier. Feeling like you’ve wasted time. The constant comparison of yourself to other trans people. Wow!

I LOVED the art style as well! Black, white, and a pop of red never fails. This short, moving story was such a gem. <3

I read the graphic novel Firebugs in one evening. Ingken is struggling, both with the world (hello, climate change) and theirself. They don’t feel at home in their body and want to make some changes, but they are not yet sure exactly how. I liked the story and the underlying climate anxiety, but I wasn't a big fan of the drawings.
