I really disliked this book and so did my kids.

Talk about a hero's journey!  Quetzalcóatl begins a journey to the underworld to retrieve bones to make humans, and he is sure to take all the necessary requirements to pass through 9 worlds, each with their own dangerous challenge.  He is successful, of course, and I loved this story.

I've never heard of this creation myth before and it was a joy to learn. I love the artwork as well.
