All in all, not a bad little history about the First World War. It pretty much does what it says it does on the cover. Facts aren't glossed over but neither does Colley get bogged down in the details. The biographies of the major players at the end are a nice addition.
If I had one minor complaint, it's that the book is a little too British-centric. Colley is clearly writing with a British readership in mind. There's a nice chapter about British life during the war; I wish there had been similar chapters about the French, German, and Russian homefronts as well. Also, the Habsburg Monarchy is skimped over a bit except at the beginning and very end. But all in all, not too bad.

It's been over a hundred years. That's kind of staggering.
This really wrapped up the complicated parts while still being interesting.

Good. Quick. Nice thumbnail bios and timeline in the appendices.
This is a good introduction. It's obviously not going to be comprehensive (hence the title) so if you're looking for something in depth then I'd look elsewhere. If you just want a brief overview then this is the book for you!
Good book. It covers WW1 chronologically and gives the good/bad points of all the main battles throughout the conflict.
Time to read the WW2 one now...
