I did not realize that this book is entirely in verse.

I really enjoyed this book but it was also hard to read at times. I was Ellie (a fat kid and tween that people, including some my family members, made fun of in Texas) so I was able to easily connect with the story. I hadn't heard much about this book but it seemed interesting to me and is pretty short so I picked it up. Boy was I not expecting to read it in 24 hours and have multiple moments where I went "that happened to me!" or "I remember that feeling."
It makes sense why some people have felt this book is a trigger as there is plenty of fat phobia, bullying, emotional abuse, and even a moment of animal cruelty. If you've had a difficult relationship with one of your parents, especially your mom, about weight then I would probably stay away from this book. It can be a hard read but it was an important read for me.

Wow this is a book I wish I had as a child. This is a book that everyone should read, regardless of age and size.
