Love, love, love! Read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down to go to bed. Ellie is so loveable, realistic and her experiences are heartbreaking. But with the help of her father, her friends and a quirky therapist she learns how to stand up for herself in ways that make you love her even more. What a book to discuss fat shaming, society expectations and bullying, but don't expect to read it without shedding a few tears.

Cried a lot. So proud of Ellie.
Novel in verse. It was pretty painful to read about how terribly she was bullied at school and harassed by her mother (and siblings) because of her weight. Because it's a middle grade novel, some things are going to get resolved, but as an adult reader, it was hard to have any faith that she'd get the support and confidence she needed any time before moving out of the house.

An absolute must read. Painful to read at times, but that is because the author did an amazing job of writing how it feels for this character to be overweight and how she is treated by people around her. Especially some horrid adults. It is important to read the author's note. If you think that this was too extreme, it's not; the author wrote from her own life experiences.
MA Center for the Book April Reading Challenge (I feel like a novel in verse should count as a collection of poetry….)
