This story made me cry while sitting in traffic. Beautiful, sorrowful, and heartfelt.
This is a book written in free verse poetry about a middle school aged girl and the things she heard about her body from everyone else. It hits on how cruel society is to women who aren't thin, intentionally or not. It is a quick and powerful read that I believe everyone should read to remind them about the power of words, the power of untrue thoughts and the beauty of all. I was nervous about the poetry, but it was perfect.
P. S. If you read it check on my favorite poem on p. 7

As a fat person, this was a beautiful book! Beautifully written and it just spoke to me! You deserve to take up space! Be a starfish!
This is a very sweet (and at times heartbreaking) story of a girl who is bullied because of her size. This would be an excellent read for upper elementary - middle school, or anyone who appreciates middle grade fiction.
Ugh, this book was devastatingly beautiful!
What grabbed my attention towards this book was the unique name and the gorgeous cover.
I feel like this is a very important read for everyone. People don't understand that it's NOT OKAY to tease or make remarks about someone's body and size. You don't know what's going on with their bodies, their health, their struggles. Be kind, please. That's all the world needs today.
The protagonist, a 12 year old kid, faces bullying in her school due to her size but the worst kind of bullying she faces is at her own home from her mother. This book showcased really well how our family has a huge impact on us and the reason we accept less than our worth, we let people bully us and we lack confidence.
This book was triggering, because honestly I feel like we've all been there sometime, at the end of a "you're too fat" or "ugh you're so skinny" joke. The author deals with this subject beautifully, the characters felt real, I was definitely attached to them and I had highlighted so many paragraphs on my Kindle by the end that just hit too close to home.
Recommended to ALL.
Empower others, choose to be kind.
Always.
