Very hunger games, but also the selection with a splash of the Red queen

I’ve never read something like this, when they said it was a mixed of THG and TS i was intrigued and after reading this book I’m impressed, I’ve enjoyed this book a lot, I will read the next one 4⭐️

This book was entertaining and easy to read. Lots of cross over between Hunger Games & The Selection but by the end I am thinking of this as it’s own series. Some of the characters were easy to love and many were easy to hate. Looking forward to the next books in the series.

I don’t give 5 stars very often recently but boy does this book deserve it. Definitely what it says on the tin The Selection meets the Hunger Games but still manages to be its own story. It was absolutely not what I expected from this book but it delivered on all counts. Once I started could not put it down

I’m so glad this didn’t disappoint. To me, it felt like a cross between The Bachelor, Royals style, and The Hunger Games. It was an easy read, was paced well, and had interesting characters.

Zea was so like-able. I was cheering her on through the entire journey. She’s flawed, but it’s endearing. It is absolutely her character flaw though as it nearly always leads her to conflict. The only downfall I felt was because she comes from a low echelon, she is constantly over-describing things. It helped develop the world, but sometimes felt superfluous.

I also felt like they chose interesting villains. You have a lot of different motives, a lot of varying degrees of evil, and all sorts of outcomes. It felt dynamic and kept the plot moving without feeling over-the-top. You have enough balance between action and development.

I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I didn't believe it would feel like a crossover of The Hunger Games and The Selection series but it truly is! I read this in one night... I couldn't put it down.

If you are even thinking about reading it, you need to give it a chance!!! :)

Quarantine is the perfect time to pick up a book you might not normally have the time for.

I can't wait for the next book!

This is basically a more violent version of the Selection Series (or any season of The Bachelor), which I thought would be a huge improvement on the concept...but I was surprised to find that the Selection Series was actually better (I know, that's not saying much) and any given season of the Bachelor has better writing and editing.

My Gripes:
Zea wasn't likable. She was hot headed, naive, and constantly whining about how everyone hated her. I found myself vaguely hoping for her death around the halfway mark and mildly disappointed when the attempts on her life failed. Frankly, all of the characters felt 2D and I wouldn't have cared if they all died.

The writing had serious issues. It jumped around a LOT and was super choppy, it wasn't always clear who was speaking, overall was just confusing, and little details often got confused and/or changed later down the road...or forgotten entirely.

Speaking of forgotten entirely...Rhys was totally discarded as a character and so was her family. She speaks more of the foreman who was arrested in the beginning of the book than she actually talks about her family or tries to contact her rebel crush. Ouch.

On the other side of the love triangle, we have the insta-love that the prince has with her, and it's hilarious. They'd had MAYBE 8 interactions in the entire book...probably less. I didn't know the prince well but he seemed just as naive as Zea. He's the freaking prince of a vicious nation where killing each other in the princess trials is acceptable. There's no way he's so naive and still alive.

Finally, SPOILER ALERT she finds out that there is a MASSIVE water source in the Oasis AND accomplishes her mission to find a way to sneak into the palace...and she doesn't immediately blow the whistle and incite rebellion like she intended to do in the first place???

There were no redeeming qualities about this book outside of my own hopes and dreams for this plot. I'm still convinced that adding violence to the concept of the Bachelor is a serious improvement but it must be done by someone who can actually write clearly. I only finished out of pure curiosity.

I will not be continuing the series as there are better things to do with my time...like learning underwater basket weaving. I recommend that anyone else looking to read this book instead reads the Hunger Games, the Selection, Red Queen, Divergent, or any other well written dystopian book. You'll get the same vibes but a better written story.

This book needs a better editor desperately.

⭐️⭐️⭐️,5/5. Sooo, el libro me gustó. Esta muy bueno. It’s my type of book. Peero no es que me fascinó. Tengo ganas de ver qué pasa igual tipo, como va a terminar.
