This was a lovely book, reminiscent of Narnia or Oz but very now feeling and without the overlay of politics. My 8 year old read this and pressed it into my hands because she loved it so much she needed to share with me. Occasionally, as I read, she would check in and read over my shoulder to see where I was and then be so excited that I got to experience that part of the story. I will forever link this book with my kiddo's passion and love for it.

The story itself is well told, with an easy to understand fantasy world and a gentle story that contains just enough tension.
