Hmmm. Not quite sure what to say about this one. Slow at first, but definitely picks up as the story unravels. What I enjoyed most was how the details of the story are slowly revealed overtime. You think you know what's up and then suddenly you get more information that twists the story just a little bit. Clever writing! But the ending was meh.
I read this book a long time ago. This is one of the first books i picked up after years of not reading. Compared to some thrillers this one was quite slow and things didn’t come together until close to the end. This story was very character driven but throughout the narrative had a very cold and detached feel which I found very interesting.
At the start of this book we believe we have a clear picture of what has happened but Christopher slowly peels back the layers throughout this story and we see what the real picture is. This is such a good book that I haven’t heard a lot of people talking about. If you’re looking for a more character driven thriller this one's for you.

Wow, another wild ride down twisted roads with Christopher Yates. Multiple POVs and questionable motives and the unreliability of memories make for a satisfying read.
Netgalley provided me with free digital access to this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book had some problems, a middle that petered out at times, an ending that lost its way a little bit - but it didn't stop me from obsessively wanting to reach that ending to find out how the story would end. I put off reading this book - mainly because I saw a review that said the beginning was gory and hard to get through - and gory is not really my style - but I'd say that's an exaggeration. This definitely isn't a lighthearted read, but the violence is completely doable, even if you're squeamish.
I thought the characters were great, and the twists were just enough that you were pretty sure you knew where it was going but you weren't betting any money on it. I'm excited to see what else this author has out there.

He has done it again, this book has been bumped up into my top 10 favorites. I had the hardest time putting this book down, it's and edge of your seat story and I couldn't read it fast enough. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, the next chapter would change everything and I was left guessing on what would happen next and how would this book end. The ending was perfect, there was no better way to end it but it still left me wanting more. Like Black Chalk, I'm going to do nothing but think about this book and try to analyze every detail. This is a truly incredible and well written this book. This is a book I will recommend to everyone and will be gifting to all my friends.
I received an advanced review copy of Grist Mill Road from netgalley for my honest review.
Grist Mill Road is a book about cowards, bullies, revenge, and childhood.
This is a book split into two timelines. It opens with a gristly act that no one will forget, for their various reasons, and then meets back up 26 years later when the main characters have met back up shockingly enough.
There is a twist you won't see coming

I’m not really sure how to feel about this book. It had good parts, but I felt some parts just dragged. Oh... the ending!!!! Really???
So the story begins with 3 kids in the woods and one ultimately losing an eye. Hannah ends up losing an eye after Matthew shoots her several time with a B.B. gun, all while Patch watches and does nothing. The story jumps to Hannah & Patch as adults & they are married!!!! Sayyyyy whatttttttttt..... What did I miss?
Since nothing is ever as it seems, Hannah, Patch, & Matthew each tell their side of the story. Some parts were so good, but others were just so dragged out and boring. I felt like somethings still need to be answered. Overall the book was good.

I wish this had been a book club book! Not because I absolutely loved it, but because there was a lot I wanted to talk about when I finished. I’m still not quite sure how I feel about it - the story on its face seems relatively straightforward, but there was a lot to digest. I enjoyed the flipping perspectives between the three main characters, but did find the switch from first person to third person in the flash forwards/flash backs to be a bit jarring. Overall, I think I’d give it a high 3, rounded to a 4. Someone read it now please so we can chat :)
PLOT: These 2 guys and a girl are young and the girl gets injured while tied to a tree. Fast forward to adulthood, one of the guys tries to contact the other guy and shit goes down at the end.
LIKES: One of the guys was a food blogger. And that was fun.
DISLIKES: A character had only one eye, and I thought the pirate references were tacky. And the one-eyed character seemed pretty jovial during the whole pirate reference scene and, if it were me, I'd be rolling that one eye around in my head bc you know they've heard pirate references over and over and over again. But in the book they one eyed character seemed to find it charming. Okaaay.
