I absolutely loved this story so much that I read it at least once or twice a year. Such rich detail in the characters and the events and lives going on up to that moment of destruction. The history and facts woven into the story is beautiful. You learn about the water systems and how important even than watching and checking it was and still is. How everything can be connected to the environment around us, the clues it gives us to what is happening and how even with that knowledge we are subject to it's amazing power. Great read.

Não me encheu de todo as medidas.
As personagens aqui criadas não são interessantes e eu pelo menos não quis saber se morriam ou viviam, era-me indiferente.
Eu diria que 80% do livro é narrado em prosa e os restantes 20% são diálogos, o que a mim me custa muito, visto que prefiro 1000x que uma história seja contada através de diálogos do que se não for.
Isto não seria um problema tão grande se neste livro não houvesse tanta palha que me foi desgastando ao longo da leitura.
A parte histórica está cá, sem dúvida alguma. Aliado a isso está também a parte científica para quem gostar, referente à vulcanologia.
Só levei este livro até ao fim por causa da parte histórica, nada mais.

Started reading this before I visited Pompeii. Did enjoy the aqueduct storyline and the slow unravelling of what was about to come. It was entertaining and enjoyable enough but why is there always a woman a man is obsessed with, to the degree that she motivates his actions. It doesn't add anything to the story and reminds me of action movies where there is always a hot woman the male protagonist is enamoured by. Like please, you just met, there is no chemistry and I am bored.
