I loved Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, but this book was a total miss for me. I heard rave reviews about The Dutch House, so I think it's a it's-me-not-you thing. The only character I liked was Maeve; she was the only reason I didn't DNF this one.

I listened to this on audio and I am so glad I did. I loved the way Tom Hanks narrated this historically Fictional story. The characters were will developed even so much to say even the Dutch House seemed to be a character in this sad story of a dysfunctional family wanting to be loved and to forgive. This is a medium paced story but I couldn't put it down.

UM LIVRO DE AÇÃO LENTA . ACHEI BONITO E AO MESMO TEMPO MUITO TRISTE ACOMPANHAR A VIDA DESTES DOIS IRMÃOS.
* AUDIOLIVRO * GOSTEI IMENSO DA NARRAÇÃO FEITA PELO TOM HANKS.

This was a great read. I followed along with the audio which was narrated by Tom Hanks. It was a steady read of several family’s and how this house affected there’s memories and their lives.

The Dutch House has a beautiful beginning, atmospheric and compelling, pulling the reader in.
However, after that great start, and especially in part two and forward, the book started lacking any originality, going in circles, from one timeline to another, leaving few elements and twists to be actual surprises for the reader. And the ending was just okay.
As for the writing, it was smooth, with nice descriptions and clever dialogues.
