This was a nice read! A great book for someone who's never dipped into romantasy before.

The worldbuilding was amazing! I loved the magic system and how everything was interconnected. The pacing, however, was a bit off at times, and the long chapters didn’t really help.

Rhya starts off quite unaware of the world around her and very unsure of herself. But as the story unfolds, we see her grow more confident and decisive. I think she’s still got some growing to do, but there’s time for that.

Scythe/ Penn was alright. I wasn’t the biggest fan of some of his choices, especially since they didn’t always make sense together. You say she’s not a hostage, but then she’s not allowed to leave the room? Make it make sense. And he’s not exactly charming at first... but hey, classic enemies to lovers in action!

But I have to admit... I am VERY curious about Soren. I’m definitely sensing a love triangle brewing, especially in those final chapters - the way he talks about Rhya’s powers... it’s giving serious Rhysand from ACOTAR vibes.

Now, was I a fan of the romance? Ehh… mixed feelings. Honestly, I have no idea who I’m rooting for at this point.

One thing I absolutely LOVED about this book was the side characters. They really stood out – full of banter and such a close-knit friendship. Definitely one of the highlights for me.

And that ending? I can’t wait to read the next book!
