I liked the first portion of the book, but once I realized that this is the tone of the entire book (not clear plot, lack of reason for attraction but suddenly all jealous and attracted) I lost interest.

This book started out painfully slow. The first 200 pages felt like a copy/paste fantasy plot and the lack of further information or even foreshadowing was painful and almost led me to dnf. However once they finally made it to Dyved things started getting better. I like Rhya’s mini subplot as a healer, I do hope they kinda further explore that tho bc often times it feels like a convenient afterthought. Tbh wasn’t a huge Penn lover, he feels too stubborn and angry and temperamental and I never fully felt like he was actually in love with her. What I’m really looking forward to is the next book bc this little triangle that is forming has me intrigued. I would also love to see where this goes with finding the earth remnant. This book was really contradictory for me bc it reads extremely similarly to the typical romantasy book now a days but the magic system has a great deal of potential that I would be excited to read more about.

The story was fine, pretty standard romantasy. I just couldn’t stand the love interest, every time the romance came back into play I instantly stopped enjoying the book. The minor characters were okay but that’s probably the only part of the story I really enjoyed.

the author is going to kill Soren in book 2 this is my prediction based purely on the fact that he's my favorite character. also it felt like the author was trying to make some kind of commentary on racism but it kinda fell flat. also the romance was kinda meh. world building? excellent. characters? fun. magic system? interesting. OH and we could have cut 200-300 pages from this. I didn't need the mid act three drama.
