DNF at 6%.

Almost immediately, I knew I wouldn't keep reading this. And from reading the 1-2 star reviews, I don't think I will like it so I'm just bowing out now. I just can't get behind an MMC who is rough with the FMC at the start of the book. I got to the part where he throws her on the rump of the horse and I went "You're the love interest?? What self-respecting woman would EVER get together with a man who throws her starved form on the back of a horse without a care?"

So no thank you.

Remember avatar? The elemental magic cartoon with the flying yak. Not the blue aliens😂 Wind weaver is kinda similar but an adult romantasy booktok version. And the tension is such a tease!

There’s much to be said about the magic system and not all cards are on the table yet. Perhaps the sequel will shine more light on the fmc’s history and the war/court politics they are facing. The side characters were alright but they seem to more or less have the same personality? It’s like the found family is one person on its own.

As much as I enjoyed reading this and rated it 4 stars, the mmc is super moody and coupled with the ultra slow burn, the romance vexed me to no end. Will I continue the series? Maybe, if I’m not constantly baited and strung along chapter after long chapter (yes the chapters are typically lengthy). Bc at this rate, I wonder if our mmc is end game🫠

DNF. This has started out action packed but how can it be so dull at the same time. The characters are boring me and I can already tell it’s going to copy things from ACOTAR.
