“Our history is always in our present.” (pp. 188)

Ron Stallworth did the unimaginable and took us through the entire process.

I appreciated how Stallworth included an insert with photos from his investigation and gave a thorough history of the Ku Klux Klan as well as the other right extremist organizations in order to emphasize how high the stakes really were.

However, as exciting as the investigation is, the book was so slow. I felt like Stallworth gave a lot of unnecessary details, but I also can see how these details provide a fuller, more in-depth picture.

Overall, extremely interesting and pushes me to do further research and connects how racism, hate, and bigotry still corrupts society (law enforcement, politics, military, etc.) today.

✨ Thrifted ✨

I had heard about this movie but I hadn’t seen it and I was unaware it was based on Ron Stallworth’s real life 😳 Incredible!

I was quite disappointed by the end, but the fact that Stallworth could have infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan with any degree of success was astounding. Wow!

Stallworth’s not the most engaging writer but the story of this makes the book an incredibly fascinating read. Incredible that this even occurred yet depressing that the same bigotry exists today.

This was a pretty interesting read that is a good shallow dive into how hate groups can infiltrate communities and how they shift, change, and evolve how they communicate their hateful ideals to the larger public to gain buy in. It also is about the experience of a Black policeman going undercover to try to keep his community safe and his experience within the police and how it impacts his experience with the community. Definitely recommend this read just wish there was more of a call to action.

I was very excited when I found out the film, by the same name, was based on a book by the lead detective Ron Stallworth. I will say having seen the film first I was left somewhat sad by the dramatizations included in the film that in reality did not happen and simultaneously surprised by the interesting facts that weren't included. I find books like this so hard to review because as compelling and well written they may be the horrific subject matter has such a huge impact. But this is extremely well done and I'm so glad Ron also narrated the audiobook which is just a big bonus to me.
