Slow beginning, but the payoff was worth it!
Sanda and Biran Greeve are siblings destined for greatness: Sanda has the military training and Biran is the savvy politician. But during a routine mission, Sanda is blasted out of her ship and wakes up 230 years in the future. She finds herself on a deserted enemy warship controlled by an AI called Bero. Now Sanda and Biran will have to fight space and time to find each other.
Velocity Weapon has several lead characters, but Sanda definitely takes the crown in this one. Along with Biran and Jules, we have three main narrators we cycle through. Jules gets significantly less time, but the mystery of her character has me invested. A few POVs are from one time side characters, but they help develop the world.
I am a huge fan of AIs, I'd even say sentient AIs are my new favorite thing in sci-fi. So if you have a murderous AI in your sci-fi book, please let me know. I loved getting to know Sanda and seeing her bond with Bero. I want more of this yes please. The beginning is a bit slower since it takes a while for Sanda to find her bearings. But throughout the book there's a feeling of suspended disbelief. It was so hard to know who was trustworthy and who wasn't. It definitely kept me guessing.
Sanda is a bit reckless at times, but it makes for a fun plot. I loved all of the action scenes when they came around. Also I am a fan of space battles. The ending has given me way more questions than answers and I'm eager to see where this series will go.
