I really liked the story, because of the fact that ||both of the characters survive this one you can really get to know them without having the sense of urgency to make the most of it like the other books tends to have.||
One thing I didn't really like tho is the ending, it was very underwhelming as ||we hear the suicide attempt mostly from Paz's perspective.|| Also the reveal at the end about deaths twelve was, for me, overshadowed bc ||Alano apperantly has super powers and can suddenly form memories in the womb?? even tho it is biologically impossible to form memories before turning 2 years old. Also the ending left to many threads open so I hope that Paz and Alano will have major storylines down the line. Bc ending on this note feels rather empty to me.||
But despite my qualms with the ending, I really did like the rest of the book. I liked spending time with the characters and getting to know them better and above all I liked them fighting for life against all odds.

Honestly, this was a very tough read. But it also taught me a lot about mental health and ways to support those who are struggling. While the inclusion of additional character perspectives besides the two protagonists was sometimes annoying and the book could have overall been significantly shorter, this was still a very important book and a worthy addition to the series.

A very interesting concept that is not well executed.

While the topics discussed in this book are very important, I don't think they were very well handled. It felt as though Paz's romanticism of suicide and self harm - while making for a realistic depiction of the mind of someone suicidal - was never met with any healthy alternatives that might help a reader going through similar feelings to handle their own mental health. I would be concerned for anyone dealing with suicidal thoughts reading this as it only shows the darkness of Paz's mind and does not do anything to point out the irrationality of his thinking. If anything, it just reinforces his thoughts.

Paz was constantly dismissing any of the professional help given with therapy, but suddenly feeling motivated to live the moment he meets a boy he likes, and then puts the entire responsibility of keeping him alive on his shoulders. I just can't see this as healthy for either of them and the book only portrays their relationship as miraculous.

I worry that the depiction of mental health in this book will only perpetuate bad coping mechanisms while dismissing healthy alternatives.

I really love Adam’s audiobooks; This one comes with some heavy trigger warnings so make sure you’re aware of those before reading. There is also a warning ahead of the first chapter and helplines given.

I felt like this one was the heaviest of the 3 so far. It was quite a lot so it took me a significantly longer time to read than the other 2 books in this series.

I really appreciate the way that Adam crosses over his characters timelines; it’s so well done and so clever, and I really enjoy spotting previous characters or hearing their names mentioned.

The ending had my jaw on the floor!
