There was absolutely no reason for this book to have been 720 pages. The story was lost in all the words… sooo many words. Needless words…
This is the third book of the Death Cast universe. There are storylines of the other two books weaved in throughout the book (sometimes really forced into the narrative).
TW: self harm, mental health, suicide ideation/attempts
Paz is a survivor of the first End Day where his father was one of the twelve Deckers that did not receive their End Day call. Paz was 9 years old, his father was abusive and was harming his mother. Paz saved his mom that night by killing his dad (all in the first book). What we learn is that in the last 10 years, Paz has been villainized by society as a killer, a threat, a danger. He is lonely. He is suffering and he wants to end his life.
Alano is the heir to the Death Cast empire. He feels like he doesn’t have any control over his life due to his family’s legacy. He has struggled with his own suicide attempts so he feels like he is fated to help Paz survive when they come across each other.
Paz is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder early in the book. A diagnosis that the reader is CONSTANTLY reminded about. There could have been less “in your face” ways of discussing and bringing up BPD without constantly saying “oh because of my bpd”, “oh it’s because of my bpd brain”, “remember, I have bpd”.
This was a slow march through a long book.
Will I read the fourth when it comes out? Absolutely I will lol

Adam Silvera I will knock you door down
Finished this book and just had "What do you mean?" repeating in my head as if I'm in one of Paz' spirals
Best plot twist I think I've ever seenSetting up a series where you spend the whole time preparing yourself that someones gonna die to then have the plot twist be "Everybody lives! Just this once, everybody lives!"
Now I need the next book so I can have some facts, please and thank you 🙏😊

That was a Huge ass mess and I wrote so many notes thinking I’d include them all here but all I got to say is, I’m not even dissapointed
I was partly invested at times and the ending genuinely kept me on the edge of my seat but God Damn I hated Paz so much, and the intricate descriptions of his self harm didn’t help either.
This book was a shit show and I’m glad it’s over, but I’m also so hooked I know I will read the next book
