Clocking in at 700 pages, it felt like a marathon rather than a page-turner🥵 While the world-building is rich and immersive, it often crosses the line into excessive detail. Descriptions of places and events are so drawn out that it slows the pace to a crawl, making the reading experience feel more like a chore than an adventure.
The writing sometimes underestimates the reader’s ability to connect the dots, over-explaining instead of allowing space for imagination and inference. Cutting 300–400 pages would have made the story tighter and more impactful.
That said, the core of the story is undeniably intriguing. JoaquÃn Rosa continues to be a compelling character, and the mystery of Death-Cast remains as captivating as ever 💀 There’s a lot to appreciate here—if you have the patience for it.
This book could’ve been a five-star read with a sharper edit. Still, for fans of the Death-Cast universe, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. Until next book.

Continuing story of a world in which you are informed you will die within 24 hours. Alano is the heir to this company and he helps/befriends Paz who is suicidal. Someone like Paz is so obsessed with death and the accessibility of Death-Cast is bad for his mental health. These 2 characters are fleshed out decently. The other characters still are a bit surface for me. Borderline if I will read the next book.

This book was, just amazing. The way Silvera has captured all the different sides of dealing with death through this series is amazing. This one is even heavier due to the context of the death talk, however when we talk more about it, we have those people with us longer. I really enjoyed the way he portrayed how personal trauma or a parent's trauma that trickles into parenting can really effect the will to live. Absolutely well done!
