The irregular pacing had me skimming a lot of the slower portions of the book but, overall, I liked the concept! Liked the draft/manuscript sprinkled throughout that had me guessing how the book would end. Let me view the rise and fall of each character’s confidence. Felt different from books I usually read! And, thank god, the dog is okay (I feel like that’s not a spoiler? I think I would’ve enjoyed the book more knowing the dog is okay).

For fans of Scream and other jump scare mysteries with a spooky killer on the other side of the door, this book is for you! I loved the premise--a one star Amazon review for a terribly murder mystery lands the killer coming after the reviewer, but I truly loved Adams' clever twists and turns. I usually hate a book within a book, but I loved Murder Beach alongside the actual text. Emma Carpenter was a well-developed, ballsy heroine. I couldn't put this one down and devoured it in a day.

the plot was outrageous toward the end and at times I felt confused by the narration, but a fun, easy read

What a wild unexpected ride. I truly didn’t know what to expect going into this one but there was a lot going on. Good claustrophobic descriptive thriller but the twists and turns got a little out of hand - everyone just kept coming back from the dead multiple times??? I did like the later chapters where the narrative switches from reality/Emma to the writer - Deek/H.G. And i would have liked to see more of that throughout the whole story. Main theme of this story: grief can be a bitch

Audiobook,

Wild book, I feel like that’s Taylor Adams’ thing; constant twists and turns to keep the reader reeling and hooked. But sometimes it felt like over kill.

I overall liked the story, but it felt unrealistic, I won’t say I agree with Emma and her 1 star, but her review seems to match up with the book she’s in more than not.

I think Adams’ writes novels that are too complicated to happen realistically, but are still fun to read, a recommendation for sure but not a must read.

I enjoyed this. I kinda guessed all the twists but it’s still suspenseful and kept me guessing. When he says “I stuck on her teeth from time to time.” I wanted to puke. The thought of putting someone’s loose teeth in your mouth like tic-tacs just

Holy shit, y’all.

When I started this I was almost immediately turned off by the third person perspective writing & almost didn’t finish the story. I’m SO GLAD I stuck through it.

The Last Word is chalk full of twists and turns you’ll never imagine coming. The suspense building is great. The ending is absolutely perfect. Easily one of the better thrillers I’ve read the last few years.

Definitely recommend for anyone that wants a quick paced, heart squeezing, nail biting read!

3.5 rounded up for such a fast start! Do not start this book at night, alone in bed!

Crazy story that loses it a bit in the middle but a fast and wild ride anyway
