I read this book because it was a DNF from a couple of years ago and I needed to try a DNF again for a book challenge. The first time, I listened to the audiobook version. This time, I read the e-book. If this had not been a challenge I wanted to complete, I would have DNFed it again. I still do not understand the high ratings on this book. Only two of the characters were likable to me. Warren was ok, but he was so overshadowed by the others that he might as well not have been in the book. Simone was a wonderful friend to Daisy and one I wished she had listened to sooner. Unfortunately, Simone’s character only makes brief appearances because she was not part of the band’s story. I wanted to feel something for Daisy because her childhood was so terrible, but as she got older, I was just bored with her character. She was one note, just a hot mess most of the time. Billy was an egotistical musical talent who pushed everyone around to get his way. Right now, I am past my limit of self-centered men who push people around. The rest of the band blended into the background unless they had some crisis and once resolved, returned to the shadows. I thought maybe the audiobook was the reason I DNFed this the first time, but it was not. Reading 369ish pages of almost straight interview style writing was fatiguing and boring for me. I love memoirs, fictional or not, but why was this the chosen writing style? I made it through to the end, but I wish I had spent the time reading something else.

the main leads are honestly insufferable 😭 my fav part was when eddie would talk shit abt them lmfao. the plot was fun though & its cool to read about characters who are completely different from me. and ykw i actually liked how the rest of the characters seemed unimportant because sometimes thats how it be 💀 not everyone gets the spotlight but i do wish they were a little more fleshed out. the brothers were basically one person-

unlike most, i actually really liked the interview format. its good for someone trying to get into reading. no purple prose or long, unending sentences. just dialogue & sometimes thats enough to tell a story. i do think the book heavily relies on nostalgia for the 70s/80s pop band scene but for someone that wasnt even born then i think the book did a good job on setting the tone.

drugs. sex. fame. drugs. alcohol. drugs. did i mention drugs?
again i really did not like the main leads. im not sure if i was supposed to "warm up" to them over the course of the book but i did not. i dont entirely mind it though, its a parallel to the real world how shitty people with enough ego & talent can still rise to the top. daisy was a hot mess through & through. she was not this super slay girlboss that tjr tried to shove down our throats but honestly just pitiful she was so lost, alone & impulsive. she gave a woman written by a man - so hot, so cool & i'll never get a chance except you would bcuz she's high 99% of the time anyways. AND LITERALLY RANDOMLY MARRIED SOME DUDE IN EUROPE I- basically this:  “it was like a train wreck, I couldn't look away.” except i could but oh well. she was an entitled bitch too.

billy is a dick. if this was a modern day setting, i bet all the band members would have a gc w/o him. in the book, he's supposed to be a musical genius but i don't buy it 🤨 a shitty husband that hooked up with random women cuz he was so stressed boohoo BUTTTT i did like how the whole rehab situation was written out. oh the karen & bro thing was weird... but im glad she stood her ground (potentially aro rep 🤨🤨) also how this book keeps trying to push this feminism forward image with its female characters but they were either anything but that (daisy) or not even taken seriously by the people around them (karen/camila).

i think i would've liked this more if billy & daisy weren't into each other. everything became all mushy & forced AND THIS MAN HAS A WHOLE WIFE???? AND 3 CHILDREN. i would've much rather read about them clashing when it came to their personality (even tho they're both cunts) & music. even then, i still had fun reading it & honestly that matters much more to me 🧍. like yeah i hated the characters and some portions of the book seemed to be lowkey projecting BUT i finished the book. audiobook was the best part ngl.

This is one of my favourites. I love everything about this book. If you’re a Fleetwood Mac fan, you’ll love, not only the overall aesthetic of the characters & setting but, the familiarity of Daisy & Billy’s tumultuous relationship, which echoes that of Stevie Nicks & Lindsay Buckingham. Stevie herself has now admitted how much of herself she sees in Daisy Jones.
This is always my go to recommendation for anyone in a reading slump or anyone who loves the whole 70/80s era of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.
The tv series is one of very few that does its book justice but, I think to truly appreciate this story, the beauty lies in the details within the book.

Absolutely devoured this book. TJR has a way of developing complex characters that I don’t see often and it’s very apparent in this book. Loved the ups and down that everyone went though and would love to reread with the added context of
Julie being the interviewer/author of the book.
Very fun and quick read with many emotions in between, would definitely recommend, but look at content warning just in case.
