This was an incredibly cute and fun read since I'm such a sucker for a good brother's best friend trope! The premise of a pro-athlete owning a cupcakery was so endearing. I love how passionate August is for baking, which he never shies away from, and his eventual willingness to step out of his comfort zone after spending so much time in the background in both his careers. Sloane really tried to get August to come out of his shell while respecting his boundaries when it would cross the line for him. Each snippet of their history provided so much insight to each of their behaviors and motivations and I wish we saw more of their late night conversations. It was so cute how they remember little details about the other which were briefly mentioned years ago and it seemed to full circle on their first date (loved that scene so much!).  Overall, it was such a fast-paced and lighthearted romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought Nicholas was such a stand out character and I'll definitely be tuned in for his book.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!

A Legend in the Baking is the second book in the series about a trio of pro football players who also own a cupcake shop. When the quieter one of the trio, August, unexpectedly goes viral after a rant in the shop one day the friends know they need some help managing the chaos. Enter Sloane Dell aka Donovan’s (book 1) younger sister and social media guru to help bring more exposure to the shop and their second location while capitalizing on August’s viral moment. What makes this matchup more interesting is that there’s history between the two of them in the form of unrequited love from a young friendship them formed. Now August knows he will do anything to help Sloane secure her new job even if that means embracing social media because he just wants to make her happy. Sloane has walls up around August because of the past but he’s slowly breaking them down and she doesn’t know if she can trust herself to put herself out there again.

Cute story to add to this series and I look forward to the last book.  I always love a book about baking so this was an easy pickup for me.

feminist cupcake baker and pro football player falls for social media maven strong independent girl boss?

um yes please.

august made this book for me because he was just too cute and sweet but grumpy and i ate it up.
i will say that this was a ~slow~ burn and at times it was a lil too slow for me - especially in the middle section.
there are also some flashbacks and a lot of emphasis on their past history which i enjoyed because it showed how well they knew each other and made it feel like a deeper connection and not just a physical attraction. the only thing i didn't like was sloane and that silly job she's trying to get - like girl you could literally work for a cupcake bakery with a hot football player and you want to compete for a job that sounds boring as hell? why.
but this was cute and sweet even when i wanted to tell them to make out and a great palate cleanser if you want something easy and light.

ARC REVIEW
I really enjoyed this fun romance between August & Sloane, the found family vibes and the growth of their relationship into something more. Though I enjoyed this book, the slow burn was *real slow* and got me disconnected from the story in the middle. Overall, a great light read, great character growth and no major third act break up.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed a lot about this book - the characters were so sweet (pun only slightly intended) and the plot was mostly enjoyable. My main complaint that kicked it from 4 stars to 3 is some clunky writing. Occasionally, the writing style feels a bit amateur - not for the entirety of the book, but enough times that it took me out of the story. For example, there was one part that said something along the lines of, "He thought he might feel bad about it. He felt bad about it." These brief moments removed me from my enjoyment of the characters because other parts of the writing felt much more flowing and natural. This also slowed down the pace such that I wasn't as hooked and captured as I could have been by these stories and characters. Otherwise, worth a read, but could use a bit more editing.

What can I say?!  This was such a cute story! I’m a baker so of course reading about successful football players running a cupcake shop was a must for me!

August and Sloane had good chemistry with each other and I loved that August was a big ole Teddy Bear. Personally, I felt it took awhile for the plot to start moving and would have loved to have seen them get together sooner.  Overall, it was a fun read and I am looking forward to Nicholas’s story in book 3.
