Why did I Grisham myself again?
Soooo boring.
My main motivation to keep reading was to finally arrive at the twist. Spoiler alert: there are none.

Fifteen years after the Firm, Mitch McDeere is back and they explain away his being able to come back to the U.S. (not super plausibly, if you ask me, but whatever!). There's a kidnapping and terrorists and it sounds like it should be an interesting read but honestly it was kind of boring. I mostly read it for nostalgia, but this didn't make me want to read any new Grisham books.
I like a cracker-jack Grisham thriller as much as the next person, and this one was pretty good, but none of this NEEDED it to be Mitch McDeere. The MC could have been ANY of the dozens of faceless, forgettable protagonists Grisham uses all the time. Like, I've only seen him write a few REAL characters (Rudy Baylor 4 life, aided by 1st person narration).

Definitely not a bad follow up to "The Firm", but plot was absurd in places and was all over the place at times. Characters remain mostly likable and easy to root for. This was a quick read and didn't feel like it drug on.
Graphic: Physical abuse, Torture, Murder
A 3.5. Mostly I had high expectations from The Firm which I loved and this felt like barely a sequel and not what I had hoped for. Still it was a fun popcorn read and sometimes that’s just fine.
