A Slow Grind in the Big Apple
John Grisham’s *The Exchange* opens with promise, especially for those who, like me, are drawn to the vibrant backdrop of New York City. However, the initial intrigue quickly gives way to a plot that struggles to maintain momentum.
The story has its engaging moments, but they’re few and far between, with too many chapters dragging on without adding much to the narrative. This sluggish pace made the experience more tedious than thrilling, leaving me unsatisfied as the plot twists failed to deliver any real surprises.
Mitch, the protagonist, is a character I found difficult to connect with, particularly because of his tendency to prioritize his job over his family—a trait that grated on me throughout the book. On the other hand, Abby, his wife, emerged as the most relatable character, embodying the role of a concerned spouse just trying to keep her family safe amidst the chaos.
The ending, unfortunately, didn’t make up for the slow burn. After building suspense, the conclusion felt rushed and anticlimactic, leaving me wishing for a more impactful resolution.
Overall, *The Exchange* had potential but ultimately fell short in delivering a gripping legal thriller.

There is a reason why John Grisham is a best-selling author - he is a master storyteller.! I started reading this in the afternoon and could not put it down. The detail, the characters, the location descriptions all make for an intriguing read. Given the recent world events taking place, the plot may be difficult for some but John Grisham handles the storyline with a mature respect.
It was great to catch up with Mitch and Abby. I personally love a sequel and while this doesn't pick up directly from The Firm, it does give a little detail as to the "in-between" years.
For anyone that likes other Grisham novels, likes a thriller, likes a book you can't put down until you know what happens - this book is for you! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

This wasn’t what I expected at all. The story was pretty good, but disappointing. The Firm is a classic and one of my all time favorites. I don’t think this story is a fitting follow up, but that’s just my opinion.

I honestly was reading this to be nosey from how the first novel went , which I loved oh so much . I was very curious as to how this novel would continue after the first novel .
HOWEVER ☝🏾 this novel didn’t give the same energy as the first novel ,& personally I’m just not a fan of international crimes 🤷🏾♀️

Not the best Grisham I've read, you only knew he stole money from the mob on the back of the book and really the kidnappers had nothing to do with the mob, or so we think, it really wasn't explained and neither was how Mitch got sick when Giovanna was kidnapped. Still a solid read.
