The Exchange is the definition of an adequate book and a disappointment relative to an author I have historically enjoyed. Grisham took the main protagonists from one of his very best works in the Firm to create a sequel over 30 years later and attached a story that linked just barely to the original. I may not have felt as insulted as a Grisham reader had he not tied it to Mitch McDeere. The most likely weak spot in a Grisham book where the end just appears when the book is long enough to sell was in full force. Normally Grisham’s writing flows so well that even a weak plot is not a huge problem. The Exchange writing did not flow as well as usual with shorter, more choppy sentences and a story that lagged and lost my attention at times. This is a 2 star book and my least enjoyed of the 35 Grisham books I have read.

This was a fun sequel to "The Firm".  It kept me entertained while on a road trip.

I was expecting more from this book. Glad I read it but just disappointed overall.

I was really excited for the sequel of The Firm and it was an enjoyable read. I was originally plan to rate this book higher but
there was no twist or trademark Grisham sinister plot that made gasp and go wow! Because of that the story just felt kind of flat. It was just a hostage negotiation with no really kinks in the plan.
Definitely still worth the read for Grisham fans but curb expectations. It doesn’t live up to The Firm, my favorite of Grisham’s work.
