Meet Cute is an adorable anthology filled with a variety of diverse stories by great authors.
It’s hard to give a rating for an anthology, when there is such a mix of stories, but I would give it overall 4/5 stars, but I will go into depth on each story since they all are so different. (Dont actually tally the average of the ratings though because I have no clue what that would be. I just think all together it deserves 4/5 stars). Despite all being about meet cutes (quirky/funny/cute situations in which a future romantic couple meets for the first time), a lot of them really stood out as something different and made me want so much more. I also loved all the LGBT couples in there, and the completely diverse cast.
Siege Etiquette by Katie Cotugno: 2.5/5 stars
I wasn’t a big fan of the writing style used in this story (it was in second person, which isn’t a favorite of mine). It was fun though, and I did enjoy some parts of it. Although I did laugh when they said Wolf had one of the last family run farms in New York. I live on Long Island, and there are thousands of family run farms. There are two farms just right next to my house. The local high school has a tractor day where everyone drives their tractor or truck to school. I love Katie Cotugno, but she clearly doesn’t know just how rural New York is once you get about an hour (sometimes less) from the city.
Print Shop by Nina LaCour: 3.5/5 stars
The writing style in this short story also wasn’t my favorite, but I loved the plot and the idea behind it. I also loved that it was a lesbian romance.
Hourglass by Ibi Zoboi: 2/5 stars
This story just wasn’t my favorite. I loved the diverse cast and how it dealt with racism, but I wasn’t a big fan of any of the characters in it, and the one character I thought I’d like was introduced in the last couple of pages so we didn’t even get to know him.
Click by Katharine McGee: 4.5/5 stars
This story had such a great premise, and I really want to delve further into it. I loved how it was in the future, but only 2020, and the technology has developed just enough to make it slightly interesting but still realistic. It was a really fun read.
The Intern by Sara Shepard: 4/5 stars
I used to read all of Sara Shepard's books, and even though I’ve fallen behind in her work, this story just reminds me how much I love her writing style. It wasn’t the perfect story, but I did really enjoy it.
Somewhere That’s Green by Meredith Russo: 5/5 stars
As a theater person who puppeteered the Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors, I was very excited when I saw the title of this one, and it managed to live up to my expectations. This story had a transgender protagonist who is fighting her school for bathroom and locker room rights. I really loved the message and the romance was adorable.
The Way We Love Here by Dhonielle Clayton: 3/5 stars
When I read this one, I wasn’t its biggest fan. I did enjoy it, and looking back it was really well written and the premise is interesting, but while reading I found myself really confused. I think this could have benefitted from being a little bit longer. If it was explained more, and had even just one more chapter, I would have loved it a lot more. I really did like the idea behind it!
Oomph by Emery Lord: 5/5 stars
This was freaking adorable oh my god. I absolutely loved it. A lesbian meet cute in an airport with marvel references? It was like it was made for me. This is one I definitely want more of.
The Dictionary of You and Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout: 5/5 stars
Of course Jennifer L. Armentrout’s is my favorite. It’s Jennifer L. Armentrout. This story was adorable, funny, and just perfect. Although I may be biased because I work at a library… Either way, I need more of this story. Can she just write this as a full length novel? Please? It was amazing.
The Unlikely Likelihood of Falling in Love by Jocelyn Davies: 4.5/5 stars
As a math person, this one was really fun for me. I have a habit of calculating random statistics in my head, and in this, the girl is just making it into a school project. I found myself laughing a lot in this, especially when it came to her classmates being curious about the project. This was just really fun and lighthearted, and even felt like the perfect length.
259 Million Miles by Kass Morgan: 3.5/5 stars
This story was interesting, and was definitely different than the others. I did enjoy it, but I did find some parts not that believable (which is understandable). In the end, it was a good read.
Something Real by Julie Murphy: 3/5 stars
Something Real was cute and entertaining, and while I love stories with a lesbian twist, it just wasnt my favorite. It just didn’t click with me.
Say Everything by Huntley Fitzpatrick: 3/5 stars
The plot of this story was really cute, which made up for the fact that I didn’t love the writing style. While I love Huntley Fitzpatrick and her work, I’m still not a big fan of 2nd person in YA. Luckily, in this story it didn’t seem as noticeable as the first one.
The Department of Dead Love by Nicola Yoon: 5/5 stars
This story was really interesting. I found myself less interested in the romance and more in the world and the surroundings (which is rare for me, usually the romance in my #1 priority). I would really love another look into this world and to see what all the other departments are like. More evidence of Nicola Yoon’s amazing-ness.

Stories of first meetings, mostly cute with happy endings, though a few have sad ones. One the best of them, I wondered what would happen next.
This felt very YA and not in a good way. Some stories were cute enough, but nothing felt well-written or gripping.

Short Story collections are so hard to rate. There were some I loved some I hated, but in the end i am not a fan of short stories and even the ones i enjoyed frustrated me as the story cut off just as i got invested... which was pretty obvious going in due to the theme of the collection yet annoyed me more than i thought it would. it is telling that it took me 18 months to finish this however most of that is on me and not on the authors who for the most part did a wonderful job
Too much cursing and unlikeable chats gets.
Overall, this was a very fun book. Some stories I would give 4 stars to and others 2 stars so I evened it out it to 3 stars. The stories I liked were surprisingly good, much more in depth than I would’ve imagined.

There was nothing inherently wrong with this novel, but I guess I’m really not a short story romance gal?
I think 3 or 3.5 altogether? Overall, I had fun with this! Brief thoughts on each individual story:
Siege Etiquette by Katie Cotugno-A little meh this one, mostly I just didn't feel any chemistry between the two characters so it didn't hook me.
Print Shop by Nina LaCour-LOVED IT. Really cute, loved the premise and the writing. Nina LaCour is <3
Hourglass by Ibi Zoboi-Really liked this one, I just wanted more! I felt like there were things about the characters that never got fully explained. Also I totally wanted to see more interaction between the couple in this story.
Click by Katharine McGee-Liked it okay but it was medium.
The Intern by Sara Shepard-This one was pretty stupid, tbh. Probably the worst one in the whole book.
Somewhere That’s Green by Meredith Russo-I really enjoyed most of the major elements of this one: trans mc, platonic friendship between a boy and a girl, f/f pairing, and MUSICAL THEATER. But I do feel like Russo tried to fit too much into this story.... I think this would have worked better as a full length book because the character development and relationship all happened SO quickly.
The Way We Love Here by Dhonielle Clayton-This was confusing and weird and didn't totally work for me. I still don't really know what was happening in this one.
Oomph by Emery Lord-SO. DANG. CUTE. I LOVED IT. LOOOVED IT.
The Dictionary of You and Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout-I don't have anything major to say about this one but I mostly really enjoyed it!
The Unlikely Likelihood of Falling in Love by Jocelyn Davies-I ended up really loving this one! The plot really worked for me. I liked that the romance itself wasn't actually the main focus but it ended up being very cute.
259 Million Miles by Kass Morgan-Super bizarre aaaand not my fave? There were some bits that I liked but others that I didn't. And the ending was like....why.
Something Real by Julie Murphy-This was so strange and I didn't particularly like it. It's REALLY hard to sell me on anything with fictional celebrities.... I had the same issue with Sara Shepard's story.
Say Everything by Huntley Fitzpatrick-Eh. Not awful I guess but I didn't really like it.
The Department of Dead Love by Nicola Yoon-This was... iiiiinteresting? Not sure if it was totally my thing. Pretty much like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but, you know, not as good by any means. It didn't totally feel like a meet cute and I didn't see the so-called spark between the couple.
