Effective horror tale as twin sisters Vicky and Irene go on a week's retreat to a remote Irish village that happens to be out of range of reliable cellphone service. What could possibly go wrong? At first, the place seems like a peaceful getaway spot even though a few of the locals aren't too friendly, but it isn't long before strange events start to put a damper on their vacation. I won't go into too many details so as not to deal out spoilers, but suffice to say there is an epic battle between good and evil brewing with the sisters caught as pawns in the middle. There isn't too much new ground broken here, and the first half of the story is more of a slow burn, but once the twins stumble upon the true cause of the unusual events, I was turning the pages as fast as I could to find out their ultimate fate. The author does a great job of describing the action and the truly horrific happenings with a strong emphasis on religion and Catholic ritual as an age old antidote to pure evil. I appreciated how the sisters each had their own distinct personalities that guided their individual destinies. The ending sets us up for a continuing struggle against evil in what looks like it will be an entertaining series for fans of classic, pure horror.

Murphy never disappoints to deliver engaging stories, fun characters, and a creepy storyline.

Irene and Vicky wanted a holiday to get away from their lives and go to a small town with its quirks. Things start off well but halfway through, I was getting anxious with each page I turned. The characters, setting, and plot were on point. I really enjoyed the little dog, Ronnie. The town was pretty awesome and made me want to visit a town like that on a real holiday (not in this situation, lol).

I love the page-turning adrenaline that I get from reading Murphy's book. I'm looking forward to reading the next book 7 weeks in hell in 2021. :)
