This book was SO GOOD. It was my first book of this sort that I’ve read and I absolutely stormed through it.

I didn’t think this was be an easy read but Graeber’s writing is so clear and his insights are so interesting that I just couldn’t put the book down.

I am really fascinated by how seamlessly Graeber weaves in critiques of capitalism and his personal philosophy of anarchism into each of these essays.

All round this was really interesting and almost perfect, my only flaw in the whole thing is some times the abstractions that Graeber dives in to in making his broader points can be a bit easy to lose yourself in (e.g. the difference between ‘games’ and ‘play’ in a philosophical sense). However, these sections usually wrap up satisfactorily. I’d highly recommend reading this!

Nice insightful and entertaining book with several essays on how we were lied to (or we lied to ourselves) regarding the supposed ‘globalization’ movement, which ended up being more of a ‘burocratization’. Makes sense retrospectively.
