Garlic & the Witch

Although I reserved both books in this series at the same time, I did not realize that I accidentally ended up with book two before book one. oh well. Book two does spoil some of book one but not in a way that would diminish enjoyment. I continue to love Paulson's artwork and definitely appreciate the character development she gave to these vegetables which were magically transformed into sentient beings. This is a sweet story that I think middle schoolers would enjoy so it will go on my classroom shelves just as soon as I read book one.

So many warm and fuzzy moments to be had! Enjoyed it even more than the prequel

Garlic is a highly relatable protagonist who reflects universal truths back to the reader

Emphasis on: friendship, accepting the inevitably of change, tackling uncertainty, bravery as a practice, and the beauty of discovery (self discovery and discovery of the natural world)
fast-paced
adventurous lighthearted
