As most of the books I get… I picked this one solely on the cover. I was drawn to the colors and the raven on it. Fae? Multiple courts? Norse mythology? Heck yes. I loved this book and could barely put it down. Can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

Easy read especially if you have read anything with fae or norse mythology references. Would've liked more depth to Reyna's character and Motivations at the start, it all happened very quickly. I like the rune marked magic system, the fae magic doesn't have much dimension. I'd love to see more depth into the actual character relationships, e.g. Maz and his warriors.

On the one hand there is the potential for a unique magic system (need to learn more about it in future books) and there are definitely some hidden identities I am curious about - reasons I will continue the series for now. On the other hand, I don’t particularly like the FMC and the MMC is so busy being “dark and mysterious and broody” that we don’t get enough about him to like him yet. There are a good number of cliches (needlessly contrary/stubborn FMC who refuses to stop and consider any new information, evil stepmother queen, dark reputation for a Prince who is definitely going to turn out to be the good guy, his inner circle where there will likely be one who betrays him and attacks the FMC, etc) but for now the curiosity of the world and magic systems is enough that I’ll continue the series
