I felt this started off strong as a fantasy novel and went into possible romantasy. The beginning laid out great ground work for world building and I was excited to see where it went. However, after the main story point in the beginning and after being kidnapped, it just felt a little all over leaving me with more questions than answers. It didn’t feel streamlined and pointing me into a direction albeit scattered across so many things at one point. I wanted more built between the FMC and Mmc to strengthen the yearning. The book does end on a great cliff hanger but I don’t know that I would pick book two up immediately.

I absolutely love this author. I read the Flame Cursed Fae trilogy and devoured it so I knew this would be the same. This is a good book if you’re looking for a fast paced read yet still has an interesting world and magic. I like that it isn’t bogged down with a grip of details but there is enough that you aren’t wondering what is going on. I also knew this would end in a major cliffhanger that would make me what to immediately jump into the next book.

Read this if you like a Norse inspired story with a unique magic system and forced marriage between a human and shadow-wielding fae.

Overall, I did enjoy this book quite a lot. It didnt take me long to get into it and it kept me hooked pretty easily, if I'm honest.

Has some dark themes and vibe, but doesn't read dark romance to me. It does feel like the FMC is very hung up and a broken record of "I hate you because x", but you know.. I probably would be too if I was her. I do currently feel as if many of the characters in the book don't have much depth into them. However, I am hopeful this wil change as the story progresses.

I'm definitely looking forward to book 2.
