At Last by Jill Shalvis
ISBN: 9781455503742
Amy works at the local diner but loves to hike and draw landscapes. She was on her way to find the diamond her mother wrote about when she must've taken a wrong turn and hours later deemed she was lost. With her cell she called a friend in town and shortly there was a ranger coming up the path. She didn't need rescuing she told him although when she saw the bear she stepped back into his body.
Due to a natural disaster they could not leave the area so had to camp out but Matt Bowers was prepared with supplies from his truck. He had to rescue her from not only that but a fall during the night that left her at the bottom of a hill, then he had to patch her up. He also kept her warm while they talked the night away.
Love the reason why she wanted to go to the meadow where the diamond wall is, it's quite to motivator.
A few of the local females who are now attached will be giving her good girl lessons so she can catch a man also, while eating chocolate.
Although this book is about Amy and Matt there are places we get to catch up with the regulars and what's going on in their lives.
Mystery of a hiker keeps them on alert for more trouble.
She can have a new career and he could lose his. Love how the town helps in any problem that arises.
Recipes at the end and a preview of the next book in this series!

Good but I'm not really looking forward to reading the next. Usually the third in a set is the one that you get excited about but I was most excited for this one and i wasn't disappointed :)

Ranger Hot Buns. I don’t think I need to say much more to get your interest sparked but I will provide. This was a great read from Jill Shalvis! I’m a little late to the game but I’ve found Ms. Shalvis’s books to be a fun, sexy addition to contemporary romance reads. She’s created a funny, small coastal town with some independent heroines and sexy heroes. And the best part about these women? They don’t need a hero to rescue them but are looking for someone to share their life with. In this story, At Last, we meet Amy who has never really had a home and has been on her own for years. Now working as a waitress at the local diner, she’s trying to following in the footsteps of her grandmother to find her own hope, peace and love. Ranger Matt is looking for a little quiet after leaving both the military and the Chicago SWAT team behind. Matt and Amy have great chemistry especially when they both are trying to fight their attraction and when they finally get together, their sparks light up the page. A really great love story that helps to intertwine the residents of Lucky Harbor and brings another enjoyable Happily Ever After to some residents.

I really love Lucky Harbor. This was very enjoyable. I didn't really think I'd like Amy that much but I did. And I loved Matt. Looking forward to the next one with Grace and Dr. Josh.

Book number five of the Lucky Harbor series tells the story of Amy and Matt "Ranger Hot Buns" Bowers. While I enjoyed their innate chemistry, this pairing wasn't as enjoyable as the others from the previous books.

Amy Michaels have spent most of her adult life trying to forget a painful and tumultuous past. She'd learned how to keep people at bay - especially men. But Matt Bowers was a test; one look and she's easily reminded of what she's been missing. She's been succesful at putting distance between them for the most part, but when she got lost on a hike, and with her BFF playing cupid, she found herself in the company of the hot forest ranger - sharing a cramped tent, no less! There began a song and dance in which the tempo is all about sex and not a relationship...at least, that's what they tried to tell themselves.

As I mentioned previously, this book was the least favorite of mine in the entire series. There's just something about Amy that I couldn't connect with. But just because I didn't enjoy it, doesn't mean the book wasn't good. The plot, in my own opinion was more evolved here than the previous books. It was more than romance this time. Jill Shalvis' personification of her characters is still her greatest attribute. I love watching them develop from merely a name to someone I actually know. And that's the power of her writing; she conjured up people and suddenly they're this 3D characters that I slowly grew to love.

As far as the romance goes, Amy and Matt has this built-in sizzle that comes through the page as soon as they're together. I can't explain how Jill does it but it's the look and how they feel as they're acting out a scene.

VERDICT: It sucks that I didn't enjoy this as much as everybody else. If anything, I think Matt Bowers gave Ty Garrison some serious competition for the hottest guy in Lucky Harbor. Contrary to popular assumptions, I'm not ALL about hot, fictional characters, I also look for substance. Unfortunately, Amy's and Matt are characters that didn't really do much for me in that department. Their reasons for keeping people at a distance didn't outright convince me. Amy also was so quick to forgive Matt, which drove me nuts because I'm one of those readers who enjoy reading the hot guy chase the playing-hard-to-get girl. Still, I think this book would still be enjoyable to most. Please don't pass up on this series.

The 2nd of the Chocoholics of Lucky Harbor is the story of “tough girl” Amy and Ranger “hot buns” Matt. I love this series and this book was as enjoyable as the rest if a little darker. Amy, waitress at the Eat Me Diner, is following a journey of discovery her grandmother made years before. The trek takes her into the mountains surrounding Lucky Harbor and into Ranger Matt’s territory. Matt has been drawn to Amy from the first day he met her. Amy is convinced she doesn’t know how to love and Matt is convinced that he sucks at it. Lucky Harbor’s magic is in its community and the brownies aren’t bad either.
Ms. Shalvis has another winner in At Last. I really enjoy my visits to Lucky Harbor and anxiously await the next tale with Chocoholic Grace and the sexy Dr. Josh.

I think maybe I'm just growing jaded with Lucky Harbor, but this book wasn't as interesting to me as the other ones. I don't know... I'm kind of bored with this series.

Very good book. Amy is a waitress in the local diner. She came to Lucky Harbor because her grandmother had visited when she was young and had told Amy wonderful stories of her time there. She has her grandmother's journal and is planning to follow in her footsteps, looking for the same peace that her grandmother had found. Unfortunately, she is not an outdoors type of person and gets lost on her first attempt. A call to her friend Mallory gets forest ranger Matt coming to her rescue. She had noticed Matt when he came into the diner, but she has no intention of getting involved with any guy, especially one as good looking as Matt. Meanwhile, Matt had also noticed Amy and would like to get to know her better, but Amy doesn't allow anyone to get that close. Amy doesn't want to need rescuing, but she knows she has to accept the help. When they end up spending the night in the woods, the attraction becomes even more of an issue. Matt and Amy end up spending more time together as she follows her grandmother's journal entries. They also find a teenage girl living in the woods, who Amy tries to befriend and help. She recognizes what Riley is going through, having been there herself. Amy and Matt decide to follow the attraction and have some fun together, but make no commitments for the future. Matt knows he likes Amy, and they are certainly combustible when they get together. But he doesn't let anyone get too close, as things always seem to go wrong when he does. Amy has trust issues from her time on the streets, and it takes a long time for her to realize that she can trust him. Some things go wrong when she keeps a couple secrets trying to protect one person, while she angers Matt by not trusting him. I really liked the way that, although they had decided on "just sex" the more time they spent together, the more they actually liked each other. I loved seeing how Mallory and Grace work to help Amy get the life she deserves, and how Ty and Josh help Matt see what he needs to do. And yet again I love the people of Lucky Harbor and how they take care of their own.

Just when I thought I couldn't find another man in Lucky Harbor to love or one to dethrone Sawyer as my Lucky Harbor boyfriend, Ranger Hot Buns (aka Matt Bowers) proves he should be at the top of the list.

Matt Bowers left Chicago and his disaster of a life behind to seek solace in the quiet of the National Parks surrounding Lucky Harbor. While the memories still affect him, he's moved on to build a life that makes him mostly happy. What would make him even happier was if "Eat Me" waitress Amy Michaels would fall to his charms.

Amy has been on the run since she was sixteen years old. First from her family and then from life in general. With her grandmother's journal, she hopes she'll be able to find the peace and happiness her grandmother wrote of while hiking the same trails and viewing the same vistas. She doesn't expect Matt Bowers to upend her world and make her want a relationship with a man or to build a permanent life in this small Pacific Northwest town.

I absolutely loved Matt and Amy together. He was the perfect Alpha male who would do anything to protect his woman, but was also aware of the type of person Amy was where he gave her space when she needed it. Amy was the perfect match for Matt as well, since she wouldn't allow him to take over her life and lead her around. They were both there to remind each of how good they were, individually and together, just when each of them needed to hear it.

I adore Jill Shalvis' books and have yet to meet one that disappoints me. She has the perfect blend of humor, emotion and exceptionally hot men. If only her fictional town was real, I'd pack my car in a hot minute and be on my way.
