Gwen has had a hard life, atleast the last few years, and it seems like she attracts danger at every turn. She struggles to keep her family safe from all the evil people bring to her door step. Her new case searching for answers to a missing boys disappearance 3 years ago leads as I'm sure you suspect, to more danger. Sam has his own troubles that are taking a darker turn and the kids are targets yet again. Intriguing storyline with some action and suspense as well as the support and love of family and friends through it all! Definitely another five star read that should not be missed!

There was only one way this could go really & it did. Basically how most of us want it to go. Still found it thrilling and entertaining. Overall a good read in the series

So, I'll start off by saying that usually I am not a series type of girl. However, one day back in 2018, I picked up Stillhouse Lake, not realizing it was the first in a series, and I've been hooked ever since. I was highly anticipating Bitter Falls, and let me tell you, it did not let me down. Rachel Caine is such a wonderful writer and I have really come to love and care for Gwen and her family. Bitter Falls is action packed and has a great and unexpected twist at the end. I highly recommend this series!

A big thank you to Rachel Caine and Thomas & Mercer publishing for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Love love love this series. I will always root for Gwen Proctor and her family- Rachel Caine does, as usual, an incredible job of writing characters who feel and sound real. Highly recommend.

So good

This book was so wild and out there, but I loved it. I loved the insane drama and the intense love.

SpoilerSo far, these are my feelings towards this series. Books one and two should've been a duology and book three was a similar and less interesting version of book four (this one). I didn't think the previous book in this series was very necessary to the overall plot. Plus, when it comes to books that center around cults or organized religion, which can feel like the same thing sometimes, I preferred this story over the plot to book three.
I'm glad that it seems like there's an ending in sight and that there could be a happy ending, but I miss the family-member-of-a-serial-killer POV that was heavily present in the first two books. The plotline that the first two books started with could've easily been overdone, so I'm glad that it wasn't, but a part of me wants more psychopath behavior and POVs. I went into this series because of the familial connection to a serial killer and I feel like these books have been losing so much of that identity as the books continue.

“women are always, somehow, to blame for the acts of men; that’s more true now than it ever has been.”

❥𝒎𝒚 𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏:
this series is so good! ♥︎
i think the second book is still my favorite, but i highly recommend reading them all!
at some point you have to wonder how much one family can handle, but with 2 books to go i don’t see it slowing down for them anytime soon.

❥𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚:
in this book gwen is hired to investigate the case of a missing boy, who went missing 3 years ago. there are no clues or leads in his case, it’s like he just vanished. with her initial investigation, gwen comes across a name of a girl, but by following this lead she puts a bullseye on her own family.

❥𝒊 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒔:
→ fast paced thrillers
→ high tension
→ multiple povs
→ cults
→ strong female leads

❥𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒆:
this book can technically be read as a standalone but i don’t advice it. gwen, sam, connor and lanny go through so much in the first three books that you won’t have a complete experience by just reading this.

CULT FANS, WHERE YOU AT?!

description

Yep. You heard me correctly! If you’re anything like me then you’re obsessed with ANYTHING cult-related. And if that’s the case, then you NEED to read this book.

Better yet, you should actually read this whole series because A. it’s EFFING incredible, B. it’s got serial killers, rural cults, and weird-ass middle-America drama, and C. because I told you to!
