Maggie Stiefvater is a magical being. It’s the only explanation.
I can safely say I liked this book more than the first. I found the characters to be more fleshed out, the plot a lot more engaging, and the writing so much more impressive than the first book. That being said, there were scenes in this book that just didn't make sense within the context of the story, and I found most of the Gray Man scenes could have been cut out, the Gray Man himself being a kind of superfluous character. Lastly, I felt the ending lacked any real tension, and that it was over-bloated and not that fun to read. However, I still liked this one more than the first and will be finishing the cycle.

Losing my mind at Ronan and Kavinsky. Toxic doomed yaoi...save me...
This is a strange book/series to review. I definitely enjoy them... but nowhere near as much as I would have expected. I am interested in the characters and the plot of the series enough to keep reading, but I am definitely not captivated by it the way I am with other series. All in all, this book, this series, is interesting (and I'm going to read [b:The Raven King|17378527|The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4)|Maggie Stiefvater|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1459349248s/17378527.jpg|24170172], but I just don't think that they're as fantastic as everyone says.
Oct 31, 2024: once again, letting my previous rating from 2019 stand as a relic of its time. This one had its exciting parts but still kinda dull overall (?). Would probably rate it 3-3.5 stars today.
