“Whatever I’ve done, you’ve let me do.”
A charismatic figure changes the lives of the inhabitants of a small town in this parable about corruption and abuse of power.
Overall I enjoyed The Auctioneer though some of the characters actions were frustrating at times (especially John).
Loved Pearly. It’s clear what Samson intended with this character. He’s the perfect politician with his spin and army of cronies, saying how things will “benefit the town” then doing the complete opposite.
Was hoping something more along the lines of The Lottery but there wasn’t any mystery and things turn out pretty much the way you expect them to.
The pacing and storytelling here are masterful. Should be adapted to the stage. Rich in allegory, meaningful in its warning and timeless in its effect. It’s Animal Farm if people were the only animals and I’ll stick by that comparison! Ok, dogs too.
And milking cows.
And milking cows.

This is a terrifying story because it taps into our basic human nature.
Embarrassed that I finished it because it was so boring and expected and unsatisfying.
