Guilty pleasure.. I love this series. The prequel book was fantastic, the Disney channel movie was great, and this book was certainly not a let down. I look forward to more books and movies!!!
Although this book was enjoyable to read in the way that it flew by so fast, I had a few problems with the pacing and I didn't really think the plot was solid.
For the first 200 pages, nothing really happened. The true action started around 250 pages in, which is a bit too late. The actually interesting scenes were over in a few pages and the ending was a big WTF, and not in a good way. I also think the whole plot twist/reveal at the end didn't make sense in context with the story as a whole.
The multiple POV was a bit boring at times because the same kind of scenario was repeated in each one for like 50 pages (re: pacing issues. 50 pages could have been used to further explain the ending... Just saying.)
All in all, not the best book, but not the worst. I wouldn't recommend it, to be honest, but if you want to give it to a kid or something, go ahead; it's not that bad.

Spoiler
We never really find out how the villain parents got away. We actually never see them, which is just wtf.Spoiler
It would have been more interesting if it actually was Maleficent. The multiple POV was a bit boring at times because the same kind of scenario was repeated in each one for like 50 pages (re: pacing issues. 50 pages could have been used to further explain the ending... Just saying.)

I have just one thing to say: LOL
Seriously, LOL. These books are hilarious! I love the references to Disney movies and even Disney songs. There are just so many witty jokes. The sense of humor might not be for everyone but I found it hysterical.
I really like Jay, Carlos, Evie, and Mal who in this one are exploring being the good guys. I also liked that there was some dissension between the "good" characters as well.
I hope there will be another one - I can't wait to delve into this world again!

3.5 stars--nothing surprising or amazing, but a quick, cute read.
It was a fine book, characters a little more defined, or maybe it just felt that way since we have seen the movie so many times. But then this book felt like I was just reading the set up to the next movie...
But it was a quick read and since my main goal was to pre-read for my daughter, it wasn't bad.

Reading the series to keep up with the nephews, and this is not my typical style of book. But Melissa De La Cruz has really hit a stride with these books. She paints a picture with words worthy of the Disney name. The unique concept of the children of our Disney heroes and villains makes for interesting reading as does the notion of does the idea of who raises you determines whether you're good or evil. Three stars for the book, extra star for the idea and De la Cruz's painting with words.
This was very cute and I wonder if it will tie in with the sequel film to the descendants? But it was still great!
gewoon leuk, niet echt spannend, misschien wel voor jongere lezers. het is dat het Disney is, anders had ik het crap gevonden :) nu vind ik het de moeite waard.
